Last revised: 19-Apr-00 While we at Wurth Electronics Midcom do not manufacture
modems, we do make the transformers that are used in many
modems. Because many modem makers do not clearly identify
their products, the transformer is often the item with the most
readily identifiable marking on the modem. This often misleads
people into thinking that Wurth Electronics Midcom is a modem manufacturer.
To
complicate things still further, there is (or was) a computer
equipment distributor doing business under the name Midcom. That
particular Midcom "private labeled" some of their modems under their
name.
Since we sell the same transformer model number to many
customers we can't easily determine the exact manufacturer of a
modem from the transformer's marking. We can, however, refer you to
some web sites where you may be able to find this information for
yourself. The best place to start is the US FCC database, assuming
your modem was registered with the FCC. Other countries may have
similar means of registering modems and may also allow public access
to their databases.
You should also examine the modem's
printed circuit board carefully to see if it contains the name of
the manufacturer. Many modem manufacturers put their name and a
copyright symbol on their PC boards, and may optionally include the
model of the modem.
You can try to find your modem using the
FCC database where you can enter FCC
registration numbers to find the name of the modem's registrant.
Note that the registrant is not always the same as the company that
marketed the modem.
You can also refer to the FCC's Part 68 Address Table (800k text file).
This table contains the registration numbers and registrant names of
manufacturers who have registered their products with the FCC under
Part 68's Connection of Terminal Equipment to the Telephone
Network.
Once you have the manufacturer's name you can try
the following sites to obtain the modem driver:
