- Home Networking is a new segment of the networking marketplace
is poised for rapid growth. The Home Phoneline Networking Alliance
(HomePNA) has been formed to develop specifications for
interoperable, home-networked devices using the phone wiring
already in place. One of their mottoes is "No New Wires".

on their home page. I like their other quotable quote, "If you had
ADSL, this page would have downloaded in a fraction of a second."
- Dan Kegel's ISDN Page
- Dan Kegel, a former CalTech student, has created a Web page
dealing with All Things ISDN. If you are involved with ISDN
product or services, you should check this site on a regular
basis.

- This award-winning web site is chock-full of information about
56k modem technology. The site includes basic, primer-level
information for people considering moving to 56k technology, links
to modem makers, speed surveys and much more.
- FCC Registration ID Search Page
- Ever wonder who made the modem you're using? If the
modem was registered with the FCC you can "run its plates" by
entering the registration code in the appropriate box and search
for the registrant. The registrant may not be the actual
manufacturer, but its a good place from which to start.
Note: you'l need to refer to the Part 68 Address Table (800kb) to find
this information. The remainder of this FCC page is
devoted to FCC Part 15 and similar non-telephony registrations.
- Modem Interoperability Tests

This paper presents a set
of data-throughput tests performed with pairs of V.34 modems of
the same type and of different types, under controlled conditions
of line quality, with the aid of a sophisticated telephone-line
simulator. The conclusion is offered that line quality is more of
a concern than modem brand in determining whether a given pair of
modems performs well in such a test.

Compliance". Provides ready access the world's electrical product

TUVs, VDE etc. Standards bodies such as ANSI, IEC, EIA, and ETSI;
government links such as the CPSC, FCC, OSHA, NIST and the EU. CE
marking information can also be found here as well as the Low

- ACA is the Austrialian Communications approval Authority. If
you want to sell your telecom product "down under", you'll need
their approval first.

Approvals Board for Telecommunications
- The BABT home page. Wurth Electronics Midcom chose to provide BABT-compliant
products as a means of reaching the European market. Even though
regulations throughout Europe are being "harmonized" into
agreement, Wurth Electronics Midcom still maintains a close working relationship
with BABT as a means of staying current with the Common European
telecom regulations and product compliance.

- Industry Canada is the regulatory body charged with the
formulation, integration and coordination of regulations and
policies regarding industry, science, telecommunications,
broadcasting, information technologies, investment and competition
in the marketplace. This site will lead you to other Canadian

- Telecommunications Standards Advisory Council of
Canada (TSACC)
- This Web site is dedicated to standards in Information
Technology and Telecommunications. You will find not only Canadian
sources of information, but also access to American and
International sources available on the Internet.
- Canadian
Standard Association (CSA)
- Canadian Standards Association is one of several North
American agencies that performs safety testing on a variety of
products. Test results by CSA are generally accepted by other
North American safety agencies, mostly as a result of NAFTA.
- Underwriters
Laboratories (UL)
- Underwriters Laboratories (UL) can perform safety testing to
North American requirements, but unlike CSA in Canada, UL is a
private (non-government) entity.
- Federal
Communications Commission (FCC)
- As the offical agency responsible for telecommunications in
the United States, the FCC maintains regulatory enforcement and
control over telephone equipment. The main set of rules for
telephone equipment is FCC Part 68.
- Kingston Telecommunications Laboratories
- KTL was
Britain's first privatized (or should we say privatised) telecom
test agency. They offer a wide range of approvals testing
services.

telecom(s) industry. SMi maintains a calendar of events and a range of prominent

- Telephone Line Audio Interface Circuits
- This page, entitled "Telephone Ringing Circuits", explains quite
a lot about the telephone system and how it works. The author, Tomi
Engdahl, hails from Finland. Much of the writing is geared toward
the Finnish telephone system, but holds relevancy world-wide.
